Looking forward from the port side of the bridge on board the general cargo ship Eskdalegate (1969) while crossing the Bay of Biscay with a full deck cargo of lorry chassis. The weather is boisterous and waves are crashing over the bow. The Mercedes and Volvo lorries were destined for Ṭarṭūs in Syria and one of the Mercedes lorries has a large dent in its bonnet. This is Slide 7 of Captain Henry P. Bird's lecture titled "Lumber, Lorries and Luck", about his service as Second Officer on board the Eskdalegate from 13 November 1976 to May 1977. The lecture consists of 44 out of 45 slides (Slide 1 is missing).
