On board the cargo ship Eskdalegate (1969) loading creosoted poles alongside a wharf at Trieste, Italy. The photographer is looking forward, down and slightly to port into number two hold from the starboard side of the bridge showing a sling of loose poles being lowered. Three stevedores are in the hold directing the movement of the sling. This is Slide 31 of Captain Henry P. Bird's lecture titled "Lumber, Lorries and Luck", about his service as Second Officer on board the Eskdalegate from 13 November 1976 to May 1977. The lecture consists of 44 out of 45 slides (Slide 1 is missing).
