On board the 3-masted topsail schooner Sir Winston Churchill (1966) showing the helmsman's position while under sail in Spithead
On board the 3-masted topsail schooner Sir Winston Churchill (1966) showing the helmsman's position while under sail in Spithead. The photographer is looking aft and slightly to port from the starboard side of the deckhouse top. The vessel is being steered by one of the trainees who is wearing an armband with M1 on it. Also in the helmsman's position are a bearded man wearing a U.S.N. anorak who is believed to be Captain Glynn Griffiths, a man wearing a beret, a Royal Navy officer and two other trainees. Other boys are gathered on the main deck aft of the helmsman, many looking up at the rigging, wearing two-coloured anoraks or roll neck Guernseys with the name Sir Winston Churchill on them, and most have a woollen hat. A Royal Navy officer is standing in the stern.
