The captain in full uniform is standing by the foremast fiferail looking aft. The photographer is looking forward from the forward end of the starboard side of the deckhouse top. The ship is heading up harbour and there are frigates alongside the dockyard on the right. The training ship Foudroyant (1817) is at her moorings in the distance.
