A boy trainee at the helm of the 3-masted topsail schooner Sir Winston Churchill (1966) while under sail in Southampton Water. The ship is on the port tack and is heeling to starboard. On the port side of the bridge and looking up is Sir James Miller, GBE, DL, JP, FRSE. He funded the construction of the STA schooner Malcolm Miller (1968). The photographer is looking aft from the centreline of the bridge. The funnel and mast of a Union-Castle passenger/cargo liner is bound out from Southampton in the right background.
