A slightly distant port near broadside view, taken from just abaft the beam, of the brigantine rigged sail training ship Black Pearl (1950) under sail in the Solent off Cowes. She has a full suit of sails set and the sail mark TS US33 is on her spanker. Off her starboard beam is the sail training brig Royalist (1971) with the sail mark TS K23 on her spanker. Both vessels are in the Solent for the Tall Ships Race which started on 16 August 1972. The Royal Yacht Squadron motor cruiser Vivacity is in the left foreground.
