A distant port broadside view of the three-masted, barque-rigged cadet training ship Gorch Fock (1958) at anchor in the Solent off Cowes. Beyond her is the three-masted, ship-rigged Polish training ship Dar Pomorza (1909). Under sail on the left, and seen from off her starboard side, is the 3-masted topsail schooner Sir Winston Churchill (1966). They are all in the Solent for the Tall Ships Race to the Skaw which started on 16 August 1972. A few small yachts and other vessels are in the picture.
