A view of Jamaican men and women loading boxes of cargo onto the refrigerated fruit carrier Jamaica Planter (1959) at moorings in Kingston harbour

A view of Jamaican men and women loading boxes of cargo, possibly bananas, onto the refrigerated fruit carrier Jamaica Planter (1959) at moorings in Kingston harbour. The photographer is standing on the port side of the bridge on board the ship looking down at the workers on the quayside. A group of workers with white boxes balanced on their heads are crowding next to the ship. A crane from the ship is descending down towards the workers on the quayside. A queue of workers extends back into a corregated iron building. This is Slide 11 of Captain Henry P. Bird's lecture titled "Caribbean Cargoes", about his service as Second Officer on board Jamaica Planter (1959) and Port Officer for Jamaica Banana Producers Steam Ship Company based at Kingston, Jamaica from 6 January 1971 to 26 April 1971. The lecture consists of 45 slides.
