Captain Willoughby receiving a large quantity of apples from Lord Wolmer on board the 3-masted topsail schooner Sir Winston Churchill (1966) in Portsmouth Harbour.
Captain Reginald Willoughby receiving a large quantity of apples from John Roundell Palmer, Lord Wolmer, on board the 3-masted topsail schooner Sir Winston Churchill (1966) in Portsmouth Harbour. Lord Wolmer, a prominent fruit grower in Hampshire, was presenting the supply of apples on behalf of the Apple and Pear Development Council. The photographer is on the port side of the deck looking aft as Captain Willoughby is handed an apple by Lord Wolmer. The apples were produced by the Hants & Borders Growers Ltd. A number of trainees are reflaking the Bermudan mizzen sail. The Mark 8 tank landing craft Abbeville (1945) is at moorings in the background. Negatives P50644 to P50655 were taken on the same occasion.
