Trainees holding and eating apples supplied by John Roundell Palmer, Lord Wolmer, on board the 3-masted topsail schooner Sir Winston Churchill (1966) in Portsmouth Harbour. Lord Wolmer, a prominent fruit grower in Hampshire, presented the supply of apples on behalf of the Apple and Pear Development Council. The photographer is on the port side of the deck looking aft as the ship's chief officer, Lord Wolmer and about twelve boy trainees enjoy their apples. The chief officer is using a penknife to cut his apple. The apples were produced by the Hants & Borders Growers Ltd. Negatives P50644 to P50655 were taken on the same occasion.
