His identity is not known, he is wearing a woollen jumper with shoulder bars and is looking up at the mainmast top from the port side of the bridge. He has his binoculars round his neck and one of the engine room telegraphs is in the foreground. The photographer is looking aft from the port side of the deckhouse top. A tug is berthed astern of the Churchill. A vertical format negative. Negative numbers PM11657/40 to PM11657/42 and PM11658/0 to PM11658/2 were taken on the same occasion.
