His identity is not known, he is wearing a woollen jumper with shoulder bars and is looking to port from the port side of the bridge. He has his binoculars round his neck and the ship's wheel is on the left. The photographer is looking aft from the port side of the deckhouse top. A tug is berthed astern of the Churchill. Negative numbers PM11657/40 to PM11657/42 and PM11658/0 to PM11658/2 were taken on the same occasion.
