A starboard after part of the U.S. Army hospital ship Hope (1943) taken on the refrigerated fruit carrier Jamaica Planter (1959) berthed at Kingston Harbour, Jamaica. The photographer is standing on the starboard side of Jamaica Planter. The emblem of the international health organisation Project Hope is painted on the funnel. The emblem consists of a globe with a red border. Some of the words in the border are obscured, but the words "Project Hope" are visible in the border on the bottom of the emblem.

Bird's lecture titled "Caribbean Cargoes", about his service as Second Officer on board Jamaica Planter (1959) and Port Officer for Jamaica Banana Producers Steam Ship Company based at Kingston, Jamaica from 6 January 1971 to 26 April 1971.
