A half-length portrait of a boy trainee taking a bite out of an apple on board the 3-masted topsail schooner Sir Winston Churchill (1966) while she is at moorings in Portsmouth Harbour. He is wearing spectacles and is standing on the port side of the after deck by the motor lifeboat davits, which are stowed fore-and-aft. The apple is one of those presented to the ship by John Roundell Palmer, Lord Wolmer, representing the Apple & Pear Development Council. The photographer is looking forward and to port and Portsmouth Dockyard is in the background. Negatives numbers PM11725/11 to PM11730/37 were taken on the same occasion.
