He is wearing spectacles and is standing on the port side of the after deck by the motor lifeboat davits, which are stowed fore-and-aft. The apple is one of those presented to the ship by John Roundell Palmer, Lord Wolmer, representing the Apple & Pear Development Council. The photographer is looking forward and to port and Portsmouth Dockyard is in the background. Negatives numbers PM11725/11 to PM11730/37 were taken on the same occasion.
