A man and woman standing by a carvel built boat's hull on blocks on a foreshore in the south east of England. They are wearing late Victorian clothing. The man is wearing a straw boater, has a beard and substantial moustache and is holding a black umbrella. The boat is probably a fishing vessel of the beach boat variety and hessian sheeting has been applied to the inner skin of planking. A single funnelled, two masted steamer is alongside a wharf in the background.
