A view looking astern of the elevator discharging bananas on board the refrigerated fruit carrier Jamaica Planter (1959) whilst docked at Sheerness. The photographer is standing on the port side of the bridge looking astern. A man is descending a ladder on a metal structure on the vessel in the middle ground. A banana discharge system is carrying bananas from the ship to the cold store situated on the quay on the right hand side of the image. A partial view of Sheerness dockyard and the quay is in the background on the right hand side of the image. This is Slide 43 of Captain Henry P. Bird's lecture titled "Caribbean Cargoes", about his service as Second Officer on board Jamaica Planter (1959) and Port Officer for Jamaica Banana Producers Steam Ship Company based at Kingston, Jamaica from 6 January 1971 to 26 April 1971. The lecture consists of 45 slides.
