A distant stern view of the Royal Navy battleships and 1st class cruisers of 'B' Fleet under way in The Downs at the start of the annual fleet manoeuvres. On the right are the two 1st class protected cruisers Edgar (1890) and either Amphitrite (1898) or Aridane (1898). The battleships involved were the Revenge (1892), Nile (1888), Sans Pareil (1887), Trafalgar (1887), Anson (1886), Howe (1885), Benbow (1885), Camperdown (1885), Collingwood (1882), Colossus (1882), Edinburgh (1882) and Dreadnought (1875). A note on the negative states that the photographer was using his Camera A and the ships are "getting under weigh for Scarborough".
