A port midship view of the Royal Navy battleship Albion (1898) during fitting out by the Thames Iron Works in the Royal Victoria Dock, London. The photographer is in the fighting top of the Japanese battleship Shikishima (1898) looking down on the port side and boat deck of the Albion. A track mounted crane has been erected on the deck and a number of machinery spaces ventilators have been placed in position. The mainmast and after bridge have been installed and the main topmast has been fitted in the lowered position. A two-masted, single funnelled cargo ship is alongside the eastern-most berth in the Royal Victoria Dock. A note on the negative says the photographer is using the New Camera and is looking towards the Royal Albert Dock.
