A port side view, taken from well ahead of the beam, of the Japanese Navy battleship Shikishima (1898) fitting out in the Royal Victoria Dock, London.
A port side view, taken from well ahead of the beam, of the Japanese Navy battleship Shikishima (1898) fitting out in the Royal Victoria Dock, London. Her superstructure and masts are complete and work is proceeding on her funnels, one of which does not yet have a cap fitted. The 12-inch gun turrets have not yet been installed. The ship's bow and stern are out of the picture. The masts of the Royal Navy battleship Albion (1898) are beyond the Shikishima. A number of dumb lighters are in the foreground, including ones named Orchis, Consul and Eliza. A note on the vertical format negative says the photographer is using Camera A. The top right corner of the negative is missing.
