A slightly distant starboard bow view of the of the Royal Navy iron screw corvette Volage (1869) at anchor in The Downs or the Thames Estuary while serving in the Training Squadron. Her port anchor is deployed and she has boat booms rigged. Her sails are very neatly stowed. Her sister ship Active (1869), seen from off her port bow, is at anchor in the background. The Active is the flagship of the Training Squadron. The horizon is not level.
