A stern view of the of the Royal Navy iron screw corvette Volage (1869) at anchor in The Downs or the Thames Estuary while serving in the Training Squadron. She has boat booms rigged and her sails are very neatly stowed. Many of her boat davits are swung out and one of her boats is close to the stern. Two chains are suspended from the aft bulwark into the water on either side of the rudder. A vertical format negative.
