A slightly distant starboard bow view of the Walmer lifeboat Civil Service No. 4 (1896) broadside on to the beach during recovery at Walmer, Kent. A line is ashore forward and one of the beaching crew is hauling the beaching chains from the stern of the boat to connect to the capstan rope to haul her up the beach. There is a large crowd of onlookers. Deal Pier is in the background. Negatives numbers N18808 to N18816 were all taken during the same beaching operation.
