A port quarter view, taken from fine off the stern, of the wreck of the steamship Ardoe (1880) beached off Sandown Castle, The Downs, Kent. The hull is broken amidships and the bow is angled to port. All the superstructure has been stripped off and the top strake of hull plating has been removed. The foremast is still standing. The rudder stock is in situ and men on board have started to remove the next strake of plating. The ship was blown ashore after a collision with the French Strasbourg on 31 January 1898 and became a total wreck. A note on the negative says the photographer was using Camera A. Negatives Numbers N18828 to N18842 are of this wreck.
