A slightly distant starboard quarter view of the wreck of the steamship Ardoe (1880) beached off Sandown Castle, The Downs, Kent. The hull is broken amidships and the bow and stern have swung to port. All the superstructure has been stripped off and the upper strakes of hull plating have been removed. The rudder stock is still in position and the foremast has been left standing to be used to support a derrick for unloading the scrap. The ship was blown ashore after a collision with the French Strasbourg on 31 January 1898 and became a total wreck. A note on the negative says the photographer was using Camera A. Negatives Numbers N18828 to N18842 are of this wreck.
