Edgar Tarry Adams on board the wreck of the steamship Ardoe (1880) beached off Sandown Castle, The Downs, Kent. He is standing on the coal cargo in the forward hold to starboard of the foremast. The hull is broken amidships and the bow and stern have swung to port. All of the deck plating has been removed and the tops of the two boilers are visible amidships. The photographer is looking aft and to port from the starboard side of the hold. The ship was blown ashore after a collision with the French Strasbourg on 31 January 1898 and became a total wreck. A note on the negative says the photographer was using Camera A. Negatives Numbers N18828 to N18842 are of this wreck.
