Francis Norris Adams on board the wreck of the steamship Ardoe (1880) beached off Sandown Castle, The Downs, Kent.
Francis Norris Adams on board the wreck of the steamship Ardoe (1880) beached off Sandown Castle, The Downs, Kent. He is standing on the port side of the lower deck aft of amidships. The hull is broken amidships and the bow and stern have swung to port. All of the upper framing and plating has been removed on the starboard side aft. The port side frames and some of the plating are still in position. The tops of the two boilers are visible in the centre of the picture and the foremast and derrick are beyond them. The photographer is looking forward and to port from the starboard side of the after hold. The ship was blown ashore after a collision with the French Strasbourg on 31 January 1898 and became a total wreck. A note on the negative says the photographer was using Camera A, stopped down about 4 seconds. Negatives Numbers N18828 to N18842 are of this wreck.
