On board the wreck of the steamship Ardoe (1880) beached off Sandown Castle, The Downs, Kent. The photographer is looking forward and to starboard from the port side of the lower deck amidships showing the top of the 2 cylinder compound steam engine. The structure round the engine has been completley removed down to lower deck level. The ship was blown ashore after a collision with the French Strasbourg on 31 January 1898 and became a total wreck. A note on the negative says the photographer was using Camera B. Negatives Numbers N18828 to N18842 are of this wreck.
