On board the Wreck Marking Light Vessel marking the wreck of the steamship Patria (1894) in The Downs, between Deal and Walmer, Kent. The photographer is looking aft from the starboard side abreast the mast showing the captain and his crew gathered on deck. Two muzzle loading signal guns are on deck; the port gun is mounted on a raised platform. The Patria was wrecked on 17 November 1899. A note on the negative says the photographer was using Camera B. Negatives Numbers N18843 to N18847 are of this wreck marking light vessel and negative number N18847 is almost identical to this one. The vessel was removed from the location in January 1902.
