Salvage operations on the deck of the partially sunken wreck of the steamship Patria (1894) in The Downs, between Deal and Walmer, Kent. Four men on the boat deck are using a hoisting hand winch, with a line connected to the top of a temporary boom, to bring up copper pigs from underwater. The Patria was wrecked on 17 November 1899 after being abandoned heavily on fire. A note on the negative says the photographer was using Camera B.
