A port side view, taken from abaft the beam, of the partially sunken wreck of the steamship Patria (1894) being blown up in The Downs, between Deal and Walmer, Kent. It is high tide and an explosive charge has just been detonated abaft the mizzen mast. The funnel and masts are leaning to port. The Patria was wrecked on 17 November 1899 after being abandoned heavily on fire. A note on the negative says the photographer was using Camera B. Negatives Numbers N18848 to N18867 are of this wreck.
