On board the partially sunken wreck of the steamship Patria (1894) in The Downs, between Deal and Walmer, Kent. The photographer is looking forward from the starboard side of the superstructure showing the remaining frames of the boat deck, the collapsed funnel and the top of the mainmast. The foremast has fallen to starboard. Edgar Tarry Adams is sitting on the lip of the funnel. The photographer's single masted dinghy Sandpiper (1899) is alongside the wreck. The Patria was wrecked on 17 November 1899 after being abandoned heavily on fire. A note on the negative says the photographer was using Camera B. Negatives Numbers N18848 to N18867 are of this wreck.
