A starboard quarter view of the partially sunken wreck of the steamship Patria (1894) in The Downs, between Deal and Walmer, Kent. The tide is receding and the wreck is shown after a series of explosions, designed to break up the bulk of the ship. The collapsed funnel and the top of the mainmast. The foremast has fallen to starboard. The mainmast has fallen aft, the funnel has collapsed, all bar one of the machinery space ventilators have been destroyed and the mizzen mast is angled aft and to starboard. A small workboat is close to the wreck. The Patria was wrecked on 17 November 1899 after being abandoned heavily on fire. A note on the negative says the photographer was using Camera B. Negatives Numbers N18848 to N18867 are of this wreck.
