A formal portrait of the Boys Naval Brigade instructors at in a garden at Halstead, Essex. Seated in the centre is the elderly commander of the brigade and behind him is his second-in-command. They are both in uniform, wearing armbands, and the second-in-command is wearing a medal. There are three women instructors on each side of the men and two of the women are wearing a naval style uniform complete with collar, lanyard and silk, and on their left sleeve are three chevrons surmounted by crossed anchors and a crown.
