Five cadets of the Halstead Boys Naval Brigade with one of the instructors in a double-ended rowing boat on Gosfield Lake, near Halstead, Essex. The boys are in uniform and two are rowing. One in the bow is holding a short boathook. The woman instructor is wearing a naval style uniform complete with collar, lanyard and silk, and on her left sleeve are three chevrons surmounted by crossed anchors and a crown.
