Some of the cadets of the Halstead Boys Naval Brigade Unit with one of their boats in a walled garden at Halstead, Essex. There are sixteen cadets in the picture and two of them are sitting in the 2-oared, clinker-built, transom sterned boat that is sitting on a 2-wheeled carriage. Also in the boat is one of the female instructors, wearing a naval style uniform complete with collar, lanyard and silk. She has three chevrons surmounted by crossed anchors and a crown on her sleeve. The boat's mast and sail have been rigged. In the background is the unit's second-in-command, wearing a uniform with a medal displayed.
