Cadets from the Halstead Boys Naval Brigade Unit at boat practice on Gosfield Lake, near Halstead, Essex. Two cadets and the unit's second-in-command are standing on a wooden jetty watching four cadets and a female instructor in a 2-oared, clinker-built rowing boat on the lake. The instructor is in a naval style uniform, complete with cap, collar, lanyard and silk and she has three chevrons surmounted by crossed anchors and a crown on her sleeve.
