A very distant view of the sunken wreck of a four masted vessel, believed to be the Mahratta (1892), on the Goodwin Sands.
A very distant view of the sunken wreck of a four masted vessel on the Goodwin Sands. It is almost certain that this is the wreck of the Brocklebank passenger/cargo liner Mahratta (1892) which stranded on 9 April 1909 and which broke in two on 10 April during towing operations. The wreck was left to settle into the sands. This is either a starboard side view, taken from abaft the beam, or a port side view, taken from ahead of the beam. The masts are still standing but the funnel has gone.
