A full length portrait of Mrs Joan Bird standing next to a group of the ship's manifolds on board the tanker Malwa (1961) while the ship is under way at sea. The photographer is standing on the port side of the upper deck looking aft and to starboard towards the superstructure. Mrs Joan Bird, the wife of the photographer, is wearing a white blouse and a blue floral decorated skirt. The manifolds and pipes are painted black. The mast and derrick is painted white. This is Slide 33 of a lecture given by Captain Henry P. Bird detailing his service as Senior Second Officer and Navigator on board the tanker Malwa (1961), owned by the P&O Group, from 14 November 1963 to 9 March 1964. The lecture consists of 75 slides.
