The launching celebrations of the new Missions to Seamen lugger Evangeline (1900) at Deal, Kent.

The launching celebrations of the new Missions to Seamen lugger Evangeline (1900) at Deal, Kent. The photographer is looking up the beach towards the seafront showing timbers laid on the shingle for the boat to be pushed down. Crowds of people are surrounding the boat. A string of bunting is hung across the road from the chapel-like Boatmen's Rooms to the promenade by the side of the boat, which has her jib and mizzen sails set. The building to the right of the Boatmen's Rooms is the Royal Exchange Hotel. To the left is the Mary Hougham Almshouses for Old and Infirm Boatmen. A note on the negative says the photographer is using Camera A.
