The launching celebrations of the new Missions to Seamen lugger Evangeline (1900) at Deal, Kent.

The launching celebrations of the new Missions to Seamen lugger Evangeline (1900) at Deal, Kent. The photographer is in a boat offshore looking towards the seafront showing the launching site and crowds of people surrounding the boat. A string of bunting is hung across the road from the chapel-like Boatmen's Rooms to the promenade by the side of the boat, which has her jib and mizzen sails set. The buildings to the right of the Boatmen's Rooms are the Royal Exchange Hotel and the Enfield House Boarding Establishment. To the left is the Mary Hougham Almshouses for Old and Infirm Boatmen. A note on the negative says the photographer is using Camera A.
