The launching celebrations of the new Missions to Seamen lugger Evangeline (1900) at Deal, Kent. The photographer is in a boat offshore looking towards the seafront showing the Evangeline (1900) entering the water bow first. she has her jib and mizzens sails set and her crew are starting to hoist the main lug sail. Crowds of people are on the beach watching the proceedings. A string of bunting is hung across the road from the chapel-like Boatmen's Rooms to the promenade. The buildings to the right of the Boatmen's Rooms are the Royal Exchange Hotel and the Enfield House Boarding Establishment. A note on the negative says the photographer is using Camera A.
