Three apprentices greasing the cargo valves following tank cleaning on board the tanker Malwa (1961) while under way at sea. The photographer is standing on the starboard side of the upper deck looking aft and to port. The three apprentices, dressed in shorts, are in the foreground working on the two valves next to an open tank hatch. A green tin of grease is open in front of the apprentices. A fourth man is standing on the walkway looking towards the photographer. A support for the deck floodlights is on the right hand side of the image. This is Slide 47 of a lecture given by Captain Henry P. Bird detailing his service as Senior Second Officer and Navigator on board the tanker Malwa (1961), owned by the P&O Group, from 14 November 1963 to 9 March 1964. The lecture consists of 75 slides.
