The photographer is standing on the port side of the upper deck looking forward and to starboard. Mrs Joan Bird, the wife of the photographer, is standing behind the Chinese carpenter and is looking at the photographer. The Chinese carpenter, nicknamed 'Chippy' is standing behind Mr. English, who is sitting on a metal framed chair and has a white sheet draped around his upper body.
