The floating dock Surabaja 1 (1963) being towed through the Suez Canal by the tugs Robbenplate (1963) and Rotesand (1961). The floating dock's name is painted on the starboard side wall and the aft end of the dock is not in the picture. The two tugs are seen from off their starboard quarters. Two unidentified tankers and an unidentified bulk carriers are at anchor in open water in the background on the right hand side of the image. This is Slide 70 of a lecture given by Captain Henry P. Bird detailing his service as Senior Second Officer and Navigator on board the tanker Malwa (1961), owned by the P&O Group, from 14 November 1963 to 9 March 1964. The lecture consists of 75 slides.
