Two local boatmen with their small craft on board the tanker Malwa (1961) at one end of the Suez Canal

Two local boatmen with their small craft on board the tanker Malwa (1961) at one end of the Suez Canal. The photographer is standing on the port side of the upper deck looking forward and to port. The wooden boat is heavily constructed and has at least six thole pins. Both boatmen are wearing check shirts, black trousers and black hats and are looking at the photographer. One of the men is sitting inside the boat while the second is standing on deck next to it. A cardboard box that originally contained lifebuoy antiseptic soap is on the stern of the boat. The demountable accommodation ladder davits are in the middle ground on board the Malwa. Two unidentified tankers are at anchor in open water in the background. This is Slide 71 of a lecture given by Captain Henry P. Bird detailing his service as Senior Second Officer and Navigator on board the tanker Malwa (1961), owned by the P&O Group, from 14 November 1963 to 9 March 1964. The lecture consists of 75 slides.
