On board the German passenger liner Deutschland (1900) alongside the Prince of Wales Pier in Dover Harbour showing the forecastle deck. The photographer is looking forward from just to port of the centreline on the bridge deck. A few steerage passengers are on the forecastle, waiting for disembarkation. When leaving the Prince of Wales Pier for New York at 11.35 a.m. on 13 July the Deutschland's bow swung and the stem was badly twisted by hitting the pier. She returned to the pier to disembark passengers and mails and was taken to Southampton on 20 July to be repaired by Harland & Wolff. A note on the negative says the photographer is using Camera B.
