The photographer is standing on the quayside in front of the bow looking aft. The name Seatrain Valley Forge is painted on the starboard bow and a large 'J' (the symbol of the shipowner H. Janssen of Bad Zwischenhan, West Germany) is painted on the centre of the bow. A portainer crane for loading containers is positioned over the vessel.
