A general view of Paradise Dock, Calais, France.
A general view of Paradise Dock, Calais, France. The photographer is standing on a dried out berth in the north-west corner of the dock at low tide, looking east. Dried out alongside the north wall are the wooden-hulled, yawl-rigged fishing lugger CAL 377 and a small single screw steamer with the name Polestar on her stern. She has a single funnel and two masts and the mainmast is used to support a boom or derrick. Other wooden built fishing vessels are alongside the north and east walls of the dock. The Calais lighthouse is in the background.
