A slightly distant port broadside view of the general cargo steamer Propitious (1880) under way in The Downs. Nearly all of the forward part of the hull is hidden by the sea swell. She is steaming in a strong following wind and has an awning rigged aft. A note on the negative says the photographer is using Camera B.
