A close port side midship view of an unidentified passenger/cargo liner arriving or departing from a landing stage or pier in an unknown port. The photographer is looking over the heads of well-wishers on the pier at the ship in way of its mainmast. Passengers are lining the rails on three decks and are waving back at the people on shore. Four cargo booms are fitted to the mainmast of the ship and her accommodation ladder is stowed outboard of the main deck guardrails. The photographer is known to have visited Dover, Southampton, Liverpool, Tilbury and London's East India Dock in the period from 1900 to 1914.
